چکیده

Boundary integral numerical methods are among the most accurate for interfacial Stokes flow, and widely applied. They have advantage that only boundary of domain must be discretized, which reduces number discretization points allows treatment complicated interfaces. Despite their popularity, there is no analysis convergence these flow. In practice, stability discretizations formulation can depend sensitively on details application filters. We present a method focusing rather general computing evolution an elastic capsule or viscous drop in 2D strain shear flows. The clarifies role filters practical computations.

Convergence of a boundary integral method for 3D interfacial Darcy flow with surface tension

We study convergence of a boundary integral method for 3D interfacial flow with surface tension when the fluid velocity is given by Darcy’s Law. The method is closely related to a previous method developed and implemented by Ambrose, Siegel, and Tlupova, in which one of the main ideas is the use of an isothermal parameterization of the free surface. We prove convergence by proving consistency a...

Convergence of a non-stiff boundary integral method for interfacial flows with surface tension

Boundary integral methods to simulate interfacial flows are very sensitive to numerical instabilities. In addition, surface tension introduces nonlinear terms with high order spatial derivatives into the interface dynamics. This makes the spatial discretization even more difficult and, at the same time, imposes a severe time step constraint for stable explicit time integration methods. A proof ...

Convergence Proof of the Velocity Field for a Stokes Flow Immersed Boundary Method

The immersed boundary (IB) method is a computational framework for problems involving the interaction of a fluid and immersed elastic structures. It is characterized by the use of a uniform Cartesian mesh for the fluid, a Lagrangian curvilinear mesh on the elastic material, and discrete delta functions for communication between the two grids. We consider a simple IB problem in a twodimensional ...

An Indirect Boundary Integral Method for an Oscillatory Stokes Flow Problem

The purpose of this paper is to present an indirect boundary integral method for the oscillatory Stokes flow provided by the translational oscillations of two rigid spheres in an incompressible Newtonian fluid of infinite expanse. 1. Introduction. The study of oscillatory Stokes flows has a key role in the understanding of the biomechanics of blood flow, the Brownian motion, the motion of swimm...

Interfacial dynamics in Stokes flow via a three-dimensional fully-implicit interfacial spectral boundary element algorithm

Since the pioneering work of Youngren and Acrivos [G.K. Youngren, A. Acrivos, On the shape of a gas bubble in a viscous extensional flow, J. Fluid Mech. 76 (1976) 433–442] 30 years ago, interfacial dynamics in Stokes flow has been implemented through explicit time integration of boundary integral schemes which require that the time step is sufficiently small to ensure numerical stability. To av...
